Those Who Stayed

While refugees came to the campus from Europe and Asia and faculty members and students left the campus to contribute to war efforts, there were many who remained at Black Mountain College. This was a vital time for these individuals as well as for the college itself. Many things were shaped and influenced by the World War II. From building the Studies building to showing support for the war to education to gender dynamics, there was no part of campus life that was not touch by the war.
“Those Who Stayed” seeks to explore life on the Black Mountain College campus during World War II. In the sections provided, you will be able to delve into different aspects of life on campus, complete with photographs, digitized copies of school bulletins, speeches, and college catalogs.
